WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!!

Last year, we spent a lot of time working on musicals and learning the language of music. This year, students will be working on learning how to read music better so that they can perform well with their voices, percussion, handbells, recorders, and band instruments.
The Primary students will be learning how to make music using hand bells and rhythm instruments in the first quarter. We will learn and review how to read notes and rhythms to make this a fun time for everyone. We will also be using our voices to learn songs from other countries as well as some patriotic tunes.
Lower Elementary students will also get a chance to use the handbells, but their focus will be on playing recorders! These students will learn how to become better readers of music through performance on recorders. Last year, the LE learned how to perform rounds. This year, we will continue working on rounds with a brand new book of 150 rounds from around the world. We will also be learning dances to songs from other countries, and preparing some Patriotic favorites for a Veterans’ Day Concert on November 8.
Upper Elementary students will get the chance to apply their music skills on band instruments. We will be borrowing instruments from the district to use during class. Students are welcome to come in after school for extra practice on these instruments.
Concerts for the Fall Semester

We have two concerts planned for the fall so far. One will be a short presentation to honor the Veterans who fought for our freedom; it will take place on November 8 at 4PM. We will be learning and revisiting some of America’s best patriotic songs. Our annual Winter Concert will be December 17, at 5:30pm. The Lower Elementary students will be snowflakes in this year’s musical, so plan on dressing them in white, silver, and blue for that night. They will also get a chance to show you their skills on recorder. Primary 4-5 year olds will be performing songs on handbells and voices. Upper Elementary will play their band instruments for the first time in front of an audience. Get ready for a fun year!
