Hi Band Parents,
I wanted to make sure you have our last two concerts on your calendar. We will be performing with some of Mr. Oxman's ensembles on May 5 in the East High Auditorium at 6:15pm.
Call times are as follows (Please be on time):
- Beginning Band: 5:30pm (to rehearse combined pieces on stage)
- Intermediate Band: 6:00pm (warm-up and tune up in 153)
- Concert Band: 6:05pm (warm-up and tune up in commons)
Students are required to attend as a large part of their grade (50 points). If an emergency should arrive that prevents a student from attending, I should be notified before the concert so that we can plan accordingly. Students are required to wear all black or black and white dress clothes. Plan accordingly.
Our May 19 Concert is the Arts Walk. This is a collaborative event between all the arts classes (performing, visual, 3D, film, etc.) It takes place from 5:30-8pm at East and surrounding businesses on Colfax. I am in charge of the schedule for this, and I will send it out as soon as it is finalized (probably in 2 weeks, as there is a lot to schedule with over a dozen teachers).
Concert Band and Intermediate Band Parents:
In an attempt to get more students involved in band next year, we are doing a recruiting concert at Morey Middle School on May 26 at 1:30pm. This is after school (during tutorial) on a Thursday. Students will not be missing any classes for this, and it will only take an hour of their time for a large impact on the students at Morey.
If you are able to help us drive, we have about 30 students we need to transport about a mile to Morey. If we are unable to find drivers during this time, we can take RTD right after school to Morey. It's only 7 stops on the 15. Fare is $1.30 for students.
Please let me know if you are able to help us with transportation. We would be extremely grateful to anyone who can help us.
Last of all, I am SO PROUD of all the band students for their incredible compositions and willingness to be vulnerable in performing them for others on March 22. I cannot understate how difficult it is to perform in such exposed, chamber music settings. If you would like recordings from the concert, I had a professional sound engineer who made us an incredible recording of this event. Email me, and I can send you your student's performance.
Below is a link to the recording of the piece we performed with all 4 bands combined - my original band composition, Dragon Attack. It was so fun to have all the students make music together on stage.
