Opportunities for those who want to go above and beyond!

I will be starting 3 groups that meet outside of class time.

Garage Band - This group will meet after school on Tuesdays in room 340 from 3:10-3:55. The goal of this group will be to form rock groups or jazz combos with students who like similar styles of music and play drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, vocalists, and possibly solo instruments. Once groups are formed, students will rehearse songs, learn how to use the software "Garage Band" and record themselves to make an album. Hopefully, the groups formed in here will have decent recordings that could land them gigs at coffee shops or other venues in town.

Pep Band - This group will perform at the 2 pep rallies during the school year and at 1 sporting event per month. All the coaches, athletic directors, and administrators at East want to see music at the games, so let's support our athletic events with some fun, upbeat music. This group will have 2 meetings a week and you will need to make it to at least 1 per week to perform. One rehearsal will take place during lunch in room 153 on Thursdays from 11-11:30 (you'll have to eat fast to make sure you're on time.) The other rehearsal will be after school on Wednesdays from 3:15-4pm. The music in this group is up-beat, fun, familiar, and pop oriented. Trust me--you'll love it, and you will get practice minute credit for attending rehearsals and events. All current students currently enrolled in a music class are welcome to join. (Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, and drummers are welcome) We will be joining ROTC's drumline for these events.

Chamber Music - This group will be classically oriented, for those who enjoy playing and hearing classical music. This will be for more advanced students, who are comfortable learning challenging pieces and can play confidently on parts that no one else is playing. If you are a classical pianist, string, woodwind, brass, or percussionist, please come to our weekly rehearsals on Fridays from 3:15-4:15 to find an ensemble that is right for you and get music to practice. Group options will include:

  • String quartet (2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello)
  • Woodwind quintet (Flute, oboe/2nd flute, clarinet, bassoon/bass instrument, and french horn)
  • Brass ensemble (trumpets, French horns, tuba, etc.)
  • soloist and accompanist (your instrument plus a piano player)
  • saxophone quartet (2 altos, 1 tenor, 1 bari. sax.)
The goal is to have this group audition and participate in the Colorado Solo & Ensemble festival in the spring semester.

If you're interested, please email me at dorothypino@gmail.com or come sign up in my office.
